07/09/2004: "Behold a pale horseman"

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth...”

If you want a good scare, you might spend some time reading the Book of Revelation. I'm reading as research for THE NAPOLEON LIST, and for my general edification.

Seals are broken, angels fly forth, seven-headed dragons fly forth from the Pit.

And what’s it mean? It’s allegorical writing – dream writing, a vision, prophecy.

Mike, you totally flatter me with that. Thanks. Hmm.. let's see. Have you seen the film "Left Behind"? I have not, but I've heard it's good.. and seems to draw a lot from the Book of Revelations. You might check that out. Also I'm looking through Eugene H. Peterson's "The Message // Remix", which was a gift from my mother. It's the Bible, translated to modern english for easier comprehension. It seems to explain quite a lot about hidden meanings throughout the text, although I must confess that there are still some seeming contradictions there to confuse me. If you'd like, I'll consult my grandfather, the Reverend Thomas Walker. He is a true scholar, with deep knowledge and many theories which continue to fascinate. I'd be thrilled to help you in any way I can. Give me a call some time and I'll see what I can do for you.. or post here and I'm sure I'll see it eventually. Talk to you later, my friend.

Ah... Thomas... I'd forgotten you almost qualify as being a biblical scholar! Any suggestions on interpretative texts on The Book of Revelation? MR

Sounds very interesting, Mike. The number 7 in particular is very significant throughout the Bible, isn't it? It's all seven seals, seven heads, seven days, forgiving others seven times seventy times.. they say the ancient texts are even divisible down to seven (seven words, seven letters). Your header actually reminds me of a book I've been meaning to read, and I've heard it's good. It's called "Behold a Pale Horse", I believe. From what I hear, it sounds like a fascinating story.
